Dan Belson

Reporter

Resume

I’ve been reporting on Maryland for five years, covering every topic under the sun.

I began my career in journalism as a reporter for the The Enterprise, a twice-weekly newspaper in St. Mary’s County, Md. that was later consolidated into a once-weekly publication, Southern Maryland News. Later, I became the editor and lone reporter/photographer of The Dundalk Eagle.

In 2022, I joined Baltimore Sun Media as a crime and courts reporter for The Capital, where I uncovered police misconduct and reported on messy legal battles involving local businesses. In 2023, I started on The Baltimore Sun’s emerging news desk, where I’m responsible for rapidly getting out the day’s breaking stories while also working on features and enterprise.

Work Experience

I’ve reported on the biggest breaking stories in Maryland on top of more in-depth coverage ranging from infrastructure to weather to gun violence in over 1,400 bylined pieces.

The Dundalk Eagle

Drastically reduced wire content appearing in a weekly print tabloid through my own local reporting, as well as applying audience engagement and budgeting strategies.

Southern Maryland News

Led coronavirus-related coverage as the pandemic progressed while delivering award-winning accountability reporting and criminal justice news from the courthouse.
